The Steel Pipe Committee of the Korea Iron & Steel Association said it held the 21st Steel Pipe Industry Development Seminar at POSCO Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on October 8. About 120 people, including representatives from the domestic steel pipe industry and companies that use steel pipes, attended the event.

Now in its 21st year, the Steel Pipe Industry Development Seminar brings together industry figures, academics and experts to discuss current issues facing the steel pipe industry.

The seminar featured presentations on four topics: next year's outlook for domestic steel and steel pipe supply and demand; strategies to increase the added value of steel pipes and expand future demand; strategies to revitalize the steel pipe industry on a carbon-neutral basis; and the current state of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) in Korea, along with considerations for transporting carbon dioxide through steel pipes.

Eom Jeonggeun, chair of the Steel Pipe Committee, said, "The industry is facing many challenges due to the sluggish construction market, a major source of demand, and rising imports. I hope this will be an opportunity to share an understanding of the challenges we face and consider ways to expand future demand for steel pipes and identify new growth opportunities."

Since 2005, the Steel Pipe Committee has worked to develop demand for the steel pipe industry through activities such as improving regulations, promotion, education, market research and support for technology development. Fifteen domestic steel pipe manufacturers, including HiSteel, SeAH Steel, Hyundai Steel Pipe, Husteel and Nexteel, are currently members.
