Korea Financial Investment Association Signs MOU with Japan Investment Management Association to Boost Korea-Japan Market Cooperation
On the Occasion of the 11th IIFA Annual Meeting
The Korea Financial Investment Association said on October 8 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Japan Investment Management Association (IMAJ) to promote the development of the two countries’ asset management industries and strengthen cooperation. The agreement was signed on October 7 local time during the 39th annual meeting of the International Investment Funds Association (IIFA) in Toronto, Canada.
The agreement was pursued to deepen mutual understanding between the South Korean and Japanese asset management industries and establish a foundation for sustained cooperation. The two organizations plan to activate a multifaceted cooperation network, including exchanges of executives and employees, sharing information on the asset management markets and systems in both countries, and holding joint seminars and workshops.

View original imageThe MOU is also expected to expand exchanges between the two organizations. At the IMAJ Founding Conference, to be held in Tokyo in October, the Korea Financial Investment Association plans to send a speaker to discuss structural changes in South Korea’s asset management market, its growth experience, and how the industry is responding to efforts to expand long-term asset formation.
Next month, Yoshio Hishida, president of IMAJ, is expected to visit South Korea after being officially invited to the 11th International Financial Cooperation Forum, which will be held in Seoul by the Overseas Financial Cooperation Council. During his visit, Hishida is expected to meet with member companies of the Korea Financial Investment Association to share the latest developments and policy changes in Japan’s asset management market and explore various ways for the two countries’ industries to cooperate.

Hwang Seongyeop, president of the Korea Financial Investment Association, said, “We hope this MOU will enable the two organizations to move beyond simple information exchanges and achieve tangible results through practical cooperation. The Korea Financial Investment Association will also play an active role in helping the asset management industries of both countries grow together by sharing their experiences and strengths.”
