The donation ceremony was attended by Kumho Petrochemical CEO Baek Jonghun, Korea Welfare Center for the Blind Director Baek Namsik, and Korea Welfare Foundation for the Blind Chair Baek Eunhee, among others. The event also featured a special performance by Epilogue, an a cappella trio of performers with visual impairments.
The donation will fund the production of 1,260 antenna-style folding white canes. White canes are mobility aids used by people with visual impairments to get around safely and must be replaced after a certain period of use. Kumho Petrochemical has supported white cane production every year since 2008, prioritizing people with visual impairments who have difficulty receiving support from the central or local governments.
The company is also working to improve living conditions at welfare facilities for people with disabilities. On September 29, Kumho Petrochemical replaced 55 aging windows at Bethesda, a welfare facility for people with disabilities in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, with products from its own window brand, Hugreen.
The facility had struggled with maintenance issues, including warped windows, rainwater leaks, and mold, as its windows had been installed 25 years ago. Kumho Petrochemical contributed 75 million won worth of support to replace the windows and improve insulation and moisture resistance.
