Jaehyong Jung, Former Daegu Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, Appointed as Administrator of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Economic Free Zone Authority: "Will Listen to Companies On Site"
On October 7, Daegu Metropolitan City and North Gyeongsang Province appointed Jaehyong Jung (aged 55), former Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu, as the new Administrator of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Economic Free Zone Authority.
The newly appointed Administrator, Jaehyong Jung, has served as a Daegu city council member, Chief of Policy Coordination at Daegu Metropolitan Government, Special Policy Advisor, and Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs. He has also worked as a Policy Research Officer and a chief of staff for the National Assembly.
Daegu Metropolitan City stated, "During his tenure as Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, Jung led policies to foster future industry foundations, including attracting companies and supporting investment, nurturing regional talent (HuStar Project), and promoting the Regional Innovation System (RIS)-based collaboration between local governments and universities. He also facilitated the attraction of Daegu-type reshoring for Seonglim Advanced Industry Co., Ltd., along with bringing in investments to Daegu from multiple companies such as Optimus System Co., Ltd., MetaM Co., Ltd., and Baylis Co., Ltd."
The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Economic Free Zone is expanding its role as a hub for innovation and growth in future industries such as future mobility, robotics, and medical and healthcare, based on specialized industries in eight designated districts. Recently, Daegu-Gyeongbuk was comprehensively designated as a national advanced strategic industry specialized zone in the robotics sector, further strengthening the region's competitiveness in future industries.

Jaehyong Jung, the new Administrator of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Economic Free Zone Authority, expressed his commitment: "I will organically link the specialized industries of each district, expand investment attraction from leading domestic and global anchor companies, and strengthen industry-academia collaboration frameworks such as the RIS projects to create a self-sustaining industrial ecosystem. I am also determined to listen directly to companies' voices on site and proactively address regulations and challenges that businesses experience."
