On October 7, Lotte Global Logistics announced that it had been finally selected for the national project "2026 Robot Industry Technology Development Project," led by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KEIT) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

This project aims to develop a domestic physical AI model that can be deployed at logistics sites. The goal is to lower reliance on foreign technologies and establish the foundation for technological independence in Korea's logistics robot industry. The project will span five years, from this year through March 2031.

Lotte Global Logistics, a member of the "Manufacturing AX Alliance"—an industry-government-academia-research consortium—has formed a partnership with robot manufacturer Yujin Robot, artificial intelligence specialist CISO, and research institute Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI). Lotte Himart, a group affiliate, will also participate as a demand company, integrating field demonstration expertise, hardware manufacturing capabilities, and algorithms.

Last year, the company conducted a demonstration at the Jincheon Fulfillment Center, deploying an AI bipedal humanoid to automate processes extending from clothing picking to polybag packaging. For this newly selected national project, the company aims to greatly expand the autonomous work scope of the humanoid. The objective is a "fully autonomous continuous process," allowing the robot to independently handle every step—from order confirmation, item picking, quantity verification, placement and transfer, barcode checking, to packaging and sorter input.

Pilot tests will be conducted at major logistics centers nationwide, including Jincheon, Yangsan, and Icheon. Six core processes will be sequentially validated to fit field environments: 3D sorter operation, Good-to-Person (GTP) picking and placement, safety monitoring patrols, small cargo packaging, component picking and inspection, and small-to-medium home appliance delivery picking. Through this, the company plans to build deployable automation solutions and minimize human-induced errors.

A representative from Lotte Global Logistics said, “This selection is recognition at the national level of our company’s expertise in AI/AX talent and field demonstration technologies,” adding, “As an innovator in logistics automation, we will spare no effort in continuous R&D and investment to lead the future smart logistics market.”
