On October 7, Hanwha Asset Management announced the successful conclusion of the internal AI hackathon competition, “2026 AI PLUSthon” (hereafter referred to as AI Plusthon). Over the course of September, the event featured AI education for participants, one-on-one mentoring, a main competition and presentations, and a final awards ceremony.

A total of 26 teams (58 employees), accounting for about 15% of all staff, entered the competition, with 11 teams (28 employees) that passed the initial document screening competing in the final round. Based on the assessments of a panel of internal and external experts, the Grand Prize went to “Hints Mate,” a team of three new employees. Hints Mate developed an AI data buildup tool that consolidates fund information scattered across multiple sources and creates a customized dashboard for users.

The 2026 AI Plusthon was designed to strengthen company-wide AX (AI Transformation) capabilities, discover AI projects applicable to daily work, and cultivate core AI talent. Employees in non-development roles who had ideas and planning ability could also participate, even without prior knowledge of AI, thanks to preliminary education and one-on-one mentoring. The competition itself was designed to serve as a practical AI training course.

Hanwha Asset Management plans to link the outstanding ideas discovered through this event with actual work projects (PoC), and will implement post-event development programs for participants. Building on this, the company will accelerate organizational transformation to embed AI throughout all areas of asset management, including operations, deal sourcing, product strategy and development, and fund management, aiming to become a truly “AI Native” asset manager.

Hanwha Asset Management has direct investment experience in global AI companies such as OpenAI, xAI, and Mistral AI in Silicon Valley, and has utilized their technologies for actual work. With this understanding of the global AI ecosystem and proven hands-on experience, the company plans to continue company-wide efforts to become a leading AI-driven firm within Korea’s financial industry.

Lim Dongjun, CEO of Hanwha Asset Management, who has personally led investments and collaborations with global AI companies in Silicon Valley, stated, “Among Korean asset management companies, Hanwha Asset Management is at the forefront of participating in the global AI ecosystem and will contribute to spreading AI-driven innovation throughout the asset management industry.” He continued, “We will continuously enhance our employees’ AI capabilities through a diverse range of internal and external programs, and develop into a top-tier AI Native asset manager, delivering differentiated investment value to our clients.”
