The event began with a moment of silence for the deceased and proceeded with a biography report, a memorial video screening, the reading of a tribute, remarks from the family representative, and flower offering. Soon-Heum Paik, President of the Management Administration Division at Korea Zinc, presented the late Chairman’s biography, and Ki-Duk Park, CEO of Korea Zinc, delivered the tribute on behalf of the employees. Chairman Yun-Bum Choi expressed his gratitude on behalf of the family.
The late Chairman played a pivotal role in the founding of Korea Zinc in 1974, and subsequently led the overall management of the company, laying the groundwork for its growth into a world-class integrated non-ferrous metal smelting company.
In particular, during the 1970s when Korea was lacking in smelting technology and experience, he spearheaded fundraising efforts and the construction of smelters. He went on to establish the technology research institute, expand production facilities, and launch affiliates. After being appointed Chairman in 1992, he broadened Korea Zinc’s global business base by expanding zinc and lead smelting facilities and establishing the SMC zinc smelter in Australia.
According to the company, the core values that defined the late Chairman’s business philosophy were ‘people’ and ‘trust.’ He prioritized the capabilities of his members and the strength of the organization, and regarded trust with partners as a guiding management principle. He was also deeply committed to social contributions, actively supporting child welfare facilities and scholarship programs, and in 2013 he received the Dongbaek Medal of the Order of Civil Merit at the Korea Sharing Grand Awards.
Korea Zinc employees announced their intention to carry on the late Chairman’s business philosophy and spirit of challenge, strengthening the company’s smelting competitiveness, while also expanding eco-friendly new businesses such as building core mineral supply chains, renewable energy, secondary battery materials, and resource circulation.
On the same day, attendees held a bust unveiling ceremony of the late Chairman at the headquarters. Afterwards, the bereaved family and key executives visited the family burial site at Moran Park in Maseok, Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, to pay respects at the grave and held a memorial stone unveiling ceremony. Korea Zinc also provided a dedicated memorial space at its headquarters throughout the day to allow employees to pay tribute freely.
