Goheung County to Provide Up to 2 Million Won in Tuition Support for University Students
Apply for 2026 Second Semester Tuition Support by November 13
The Goheung County Education Advancement Committee (Chairman: Gong Youngmin) announced that it will begin accepting applications for the "2026 Second Semester University Tuition Support Program" from October 12, in an effort to reduce the educational expenses borne by local university students and their parents.
This program supports students by providing up to 2 million won per semester for tuition fees paid by the student themselves, excluding all types of scholarships. The aim is to alleviate students' financial burdens so they can focus on their studies and foster talented individuals who will grow together with the local community.
Eligibility is limited to university students under the age of 30 (born on or after January 1, 1996) who have graduated from at least two elementary, middle, or high schools within Goheung County. Additionally, their legal guardian must have maintained resident registration in Goheung County for at least three consecutive years as of the date of announcement, and all other requirements specified in the official notification must be met.
Especially from the second semester of the 2026 academic year, the eligibility standards have been considerably relaxed to allow more students to benefit. The previous requirement of a minimum percentile score of 70 in the previous semester has been abolished, although continuing students must still have completed at least 12 credits in the prior semester.
The amount of support will be calculated based on the actual out-of-pocket tuition paid for the semester, after deducting national scholarships, school scholarships, and scholarships from parents’ workplaces. The coverage includes mandatory expenses such as enrollment fees and tuition, but excludes payments like student association fees and other miscellaneous charges.
Applications will be accepted from October 12 to November 13 at 6 p.m. Applicants may visit their local township office in person or apply by registered mail. The subsidy is scheduled to be deposited into accounts in the student's name by the end of December.
