Focusing on Hyper-Personalization with Customized Notifications
"Integrating PB and IB Strengths for Seamless Service"
Korea Investment & Securities has announced its goal to become the market leader in the retirement pension sector by leveraging its existing strengths in private banking (PB) and investment banking (IB). To achieve this, the company has overhauled its entire MTS (Mobile Trading System) pension service, providing individualized asset management functions optimized for retirement pension participants' investment tendencies.

Kim Dohyun, Head of Retail Client Group at Korea Investment & Securities, stated, "We are pouring the full strength of our organization into the retirement pension business, as we feel a sense of urgency that without capturing a share of the retirement pension market—which is forecast to experience explosive growth to 1,000 trillion won within three years—there is no future in the asset management industry.” He emphasized, "Although it will take time, our objective is to become number one." Currently, Korea Investment & Securities ranks third among securities companies offering retirement pension services.
Kim highlighted, "Korea Investment & Securities has the best PB capabilities in the industry and has been traditionally strong in IB as well. Pensions are not just the domain of individuals or corporations—they belong to both. We plan to connect our strengths in PB and IB to the pension business." He explained that the company aims to launch a business model organically linking the personal and corporate segments of the pension market, based on the asset management expertise of its PB staff and its robust IB network. To this end, the company has already recruited external professionals and reorganized its dedicated team.
In particular, the company is transforming the MTS used by retirement pension customers into a 'digital PB' to greatly improve investment convenience customized to each client's profile. At the briefing, Korea Investment & Securities introduced the redesigned pension home screen and demonstrated detailed functions such as 'My Total Pension Assets' and 'Personalized Notifications.' The new service is characterized by hyper-personalization, simplifying complex pension work processes so they can be handled with minimal touches, while also providing personalized notifications based on individual customer data.
First, in the product-specific tabs, clients can check all pension products at a glance, regardless of account type. Personalized screens are offered according to lifecycle stages such as contribution, investment, and withdrawal. As with stock trading, clients can view real-time ETF balances and cash flow details. Beyond simple asset inquiry, the platform intuitively guides subscribers on actions that they actually need to address, encouraging proactive asset management.
Hwang Yoonhee, Head of the Digital Pension Team, explained, "In the past, pensions were just one kind of financial product, but as the role of pensions has grown, so have the areas that clients need to manage. The starting point for this revamp was not merely adding new features, but shifting the standard by which we view pension services to focus on clients and the system itself." Going forward, Korea Investment & Securities plans to sequentially add features such as expert model portfolio trading for customers who find direct investment difficult, AI-based product analysis, and customized post-retirement withdrawal planning.
As of the end of 2025, the total pension market size—combining 501 trillion won in retirement pension reserves and 198 trillion won in private pensions—will have expanded to 699 trillion won. Among this, individual pensions such as defined contribution (DC) plans and IRPs account for 67.3%.
In particular, the retirement pension market is now seeing a broader discussion on mandatory enrollment, and the average age of DC plan participants is declining, signaling an overall trend of earlier retirement planning. According to Korea Investment & Securities, the average age of new DC subscribers has dropped from 40 in 2015 to 36 by 2025. Additionally, the proportion of clients actually receiving pension payments has increased dramatically from 11% in 2015 to 85% in 2025.
In response to these market changes, Korea Investment & Securities plans to sharply improve the convenience of its mobile pension services, aiming to serve as a 'lifelong pension partner' that supports every stage of retirement preparation from contribution to management to payout. Choi Jongjin, Head of the Pension Innovation Headquarters, stated, "As the age bracket for DC subscribers drops, we are building a structure where customers first engage with Korea Investment & Securities at age 36 and continue with us for 30 years until retirement. We will establish a lifelong management system as a comprehensive platform."
