With a vision of becoming a “Glocal AI-centered university that nurtures advanced AI professionals across the full academic cycle,” Chosun University will overhaul its organizational structure and academic system. The university will first establish the “AI·Software Convergence Institute” under the direct supervision of the university president to oversee AI education across the institution. Jae-Young Byun, the head of the project group (principal investigator), will also serve as the director of the AI·Software Convergence Institute.
In addition, to secure outstanding educational and research capabilities, the university will hire 100 AI·AX faculty members over the next eight years. In collaboration with the Honam Semiconductor Cluster, Chosun University plans to establish the “School of Semiconductor Convergence” by 2028 and increase the enrollment quota for the AI Engineering major to 70 students.
To promote practice-oriented education and nurture high-level talent, the university will introduce an integrated bachelor's-master's “AX Elite Fast-Track (4+1)” program. This program will accommodate approximately 40 students annually, offering full tuition waivers for master's studies to participating students and establishing an educational system that connects undergraduate research internships with industry-academic R&D from the early undergraduate years.
All undergraduate students, including non-majors, will be required to complete at least two introductory AI courses (6–9 credits), and “AX Bridge” courses will be introduced in each major to expand AI·AX education across all curricula.
To strengthen the educational and research infrastructure, Chosun University will establish the “Chosun University AI Data Center” and will support GPUs and multi-LLM tokens via the WeHub+ platform. An AI ecosystem that integrates education, research, and startups will be built through phased startup support based on the CESIS model.
Chunseong Kim, President of Chosun University, stated, “This selection recognizes Chosun University’s nationally acknowledged innovation capabilities in leading software education. Through the AI·Software Convergence Institute under the direct supervision of the president, we will transform the entire university system to focus on AI and nurture globally competitive AI convergence professionals who will drive the nation’s industries.”
