KOSPI Stays Flat Amid Net Selling by Foreign and Retail Investors
Most KOSDAQ Sectors Rise, Index Surpasses 910 Points
The KOSPI index is hovering around the 7,000-point level, showing little movement due to net selling by foreign investors and retail investors. In contrast, the KOSDAQ is showing strong gains of around 2%.
As of 9:40 a.m. on October 6, 2026, the KOSPI index was trading at 7,015.56, up 11.82 points (0.17%) from the previous trading day. By investor type, foreign investors and retail investors were net sellers at KRW 294.598 billion and KRW 172.623 billion, respectively, while institutional investors were net buyers at KRW 307.861 billion.
By sector, most industries remain flat, except for securities (+1.23%). Machinery and equipment (+0.78%), financials (+0.34%), and electrical and electronics (+0.26%) are showing mild gains, while transportation and storage (-0.81%), insurance (-0.77%), paper and wood (-0.80%), and chemicals (-0.49%) are showing mild losses.
Among large-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics, the leader by market capitalization, is up 0.5% while SK hynix, ranked second, is down 1.2%. Samsung Electro-Mechanics (+5.6%), Samsung SDI (+3.9%), and SK Square (+2.8%) are posting strong gains, but Hanwha Aerospace (-2.4%), Samsung Biologics (-1.5%), and Shinhan Financial Group (-1.1%) are seeing declines.
The KOSDAQ index is trading at 910.79, up 17.50 points (1.96%). Foreign investors and institutional investors are net buyers at KRW 9.717 billion and KRW 28.843 billion, respectively, while retail investors are net sellers at KRW 31.476 billion.
By sector, most industries are showing gains. Pharmaceuticals (+4.11%), financials (+2.31%), electrical and electronics (+1.96%), and machinery and equipment (+1.92%) are recording significant increases. In contrast, publishing and media replication (-0.88%) and non-metallics (-0.33%) are posting minor losses.

Most of the top KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization are also seeing gains. In particular, some bio stocks such as HLB (+17.3%) and Samchundang Pharm (+12.8%) have recorded double-digit increases. Jusung Engineering (+8.4%), Wonik IPS (+6.1%), and EcoPro BM (+4.9%) have also posted gains of more than 3%.
