Busan to Resume EV Subsidies as Demand Surges, 1,520 Additional Units to be Supplied
1,300 Electric Passenger Vehicles, 220 Electric Trucks
KRW 10.3 Billion from National Funds, KRW 3.2 Billion from Municipal Funds Invested
Truck Applications Open October 7, Passenger Car Applications Open October 14
Applications for electric vehicle subsidies are resuming in Busan. As demand for electric vehicles this year surged and the supply for the second half was quickly depleted, the Busan Metropolitan Government has decided to release an additional 1,520 units.
On October 6, the Busan Metropolitan Government (Mayor Jeon Jae-soo) announced that it would push ahead with additional distribution under the "2026 Private Electric Vehicle Supply Program." A total of KRW 13.5 billion will be invested, comprising KRW 3.2 billion secured from the city’s supplementary budget and KRW 10.3 billion in national funding.
The additional supply will cover 1,300 electric passenger vehicles and 220 electric trucks. Applications will be accepted sequentially by vehicle category: electric trucks from October 7, and electric passenger vehicles from October 14.
Demand for electric vehicles in Busan has grown significantly this year compared to last year. In July, Busan allocated 2,790 electric passenger vehicles and 471 electric trucks for supply in the second half of the year, but the application period ended early that same month as submissions quickly exceeded supply.
This year, the number of electric vehicle applications is more than double that of last year. The Busan Metropolitan Government believes that factors such as international oil price fluctuations, comparatively low maintenance costs, and heightened environmental awareness have each contributed to the increased demand.
Once additional supply applications begin, there is a possibility that a flood of applications will be submitted in a short period. To address this, the Busan Metropolitan Government will strengthen its workforce to handle work, seeking to minimize inconveniences that may arise during the application process.
Applicants are reminded to carefully review the relevant information when filling out the application form to avoid the need for corrections or resubmissions. They are also encouraged to submit their applications during less busy periods to avoid the application rush.
