Genesis Launches GV80 Hybrid at 76.8 Million Won
Rear-Wheel-Based 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System
352-Horsepower Output: 16% Higher Than Gasoline Model
Combined Fuel Efficiency Improved by 29% Over Gasoline at 12 km/l
Equipped with 'Hybrid Terrain Performance' for Off-Road Capability
Genesis has launched its first-ever hybrid model, the GV80 Hybrid, marking its entry into the domestic luxury hybrid market.
On October 6, Genesis announced the release and start of sales for the GV80 Hybrid, which is equipped with the new 2.5 Turbo Hybrid system.
The GV80 Hybrid features the next-generation hybrid system that integrates a 2.5 turbo engine with two motors arranged in parallel: a P1 motor for engine start and power generation, and a P2 motor for vehicle propulsion and regenerative braking. The system's combined maximum output is 352 horsepower, which is approximately 16% higher than the existing GV80 2.5 Turbo's 304 horsepower.
The combined fuel efficiency is 12 km per liter, based on the 19-inch 2WD five-seater variant. This figure represents an improvement of about 29% compared to the previous GV80 2.5 Turbo. With a fuel tank capacity of 76 liters, Genesis states that a single refueling allows for a maximum driving range of approximately 912 km. According to Genesis’ own in-house testing, it takes about 7.1 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h.
The model debuts a new 7-speed transmission, derived from the rear-wheel-drive 8-speed automatic transmission found in the previous GV80 3.5 Turbo, with structural optimizations. The reduced transmission length increases power delivery efficiency, and the higher first gear ratio allows the vehicle to reverse using only the P2 motor, without engine intervention.
The hybrid battery incorporates Hyundai Motor Group’s first liquid-cooling system. This enhancement increases the maximum discharge output and battery efficiency. EV driving modes are enabled over wider operating ranges, resulting in improved quietness and acceleration responsiveness.
From the moment the vehicle starts in situations like basement parking exits or congested urban environments, the system actively utilizes the motors, while in EV mode, engine power is immediately available when accelerating again. According to in-house measurements by Genesis, acceleration performance from 100 km/h is approximately 18% faster than the previous GV80 2.5 gasoline turbo model.
Features tailored for the hybrid have also been added. The all-wheel-drive (AWD) model is equipped for the first time within Hyundai Motor Group with 'Hybrid Terrain Performance (HTP)' to manage power output from the engine and motors on slopes or unpaved roads. In addition, hybrid hierarchical predictive control (HPC) utilizing navigation data to manage battery charge, as well as smart regenerative braking, have been implemented.
The GV80 Hybrid also supports V2L (Vehicle-to-Load), enabling it to supply external power like an electric vehicle. The maximum output is 3.6kW, and this feature can be used continuously while the engine is running. In "Stay Mode"—when the engine is off— up to 50% of the battery’s charge can be used to supply power.
Ride comfort and cabin quietness have been enhanced. The model employs dual-valve electronically controlled shock absorbers that manage compression and rebound damping forces independently, and by adjusting the strength of the front and rear springs and rear stabilizer bar, the chassis exhibits more stable handling. Additional vibration absorption devices and sound-insulating materials reduce noise and vibration from the engine and transmission.
For safety, the vehicle body structure has been reinforced to enhance collision protection from the front and sides, and 'Pedal Misapplication Safety Assist (PMSA)' has been added. This system detects accidental accelerator application while stopped, limits driving force, and provides emergency braking support.
The exterior features a newly designed grille and new wheel designs. Four new exterior colors have been added: Seychelles Beige, Brunswick Green, Tromso Green, and Cardiff Green. The cabin offers four new two-tone color options and two types of genuine wood garnish.
The GV80 Hybrid has a sticker price of 76.8 million won, based on an individual consumption tax rate of 5%.
On the same day, Genesis also unveiled the updated model-year editions—the 2027 GV80 and the 2027 GV80 Coupe. Both models now come standard with a surround view monitor, blind spot monitor, rear parking collision-avoidance assist, side parking distance warning, and Genesis Digital Key 2.
The 2027 GV80 features a new grille that is 10 mm larger and a design with both the overall vehicle length and front overhang extended by 10 mm compared to the previous model. The 2027 GV80 Coupe is equipped with glossy black design elements, new two-tone seats, and blue-accent carbon garnish.
The 2027 GV80 is priced at 69.85 million won, and the 2027 GV80 Coupe is priced at 82.7 million won.
