Meeting Veteran Artists Including Hyun Ki-young and Kim Yoonsin... Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture’s "Masterpiece Talk"
Veteran Artists from Seven Fields Including Literature, Dance, and Music
Highlighting Lives and Artistic Worlds Through Talks, Performances, and Talk Concerts
Held at Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture Venues Through December
A stage has been set to delve into the lives and artistic worlds of veteran artists, including novelist Hyun Ki-young, South Korea’s first-generation female sculptor Kim Yoonsin, poet Shin Dalja, and Gayageum master Kim Haesook.
The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture announced on the 6th that it will host “Masterpiece Talk” from the 18th of this month through December. “Masterpiece Talk” is a special program designed not only to spotlight the artistic achievements of veteran artists who have walked the path of art for decades, but also to give citizens the chance to share in the wealth of experience and philosophy these artists have accumulated throughout their lives of creative work. The program will take place in a variety of formats tailored to each genre, such as talks, performances, talk concerts, and seminars, allowing citizens to experience both the works of senior artists and the stories behind them up close. It will also provide a “space for intergenerational communication,” in which the long artistic journeys of senior artists are reflected upon and exchanges with younger artists are encouraged.
This year, veteran artists from seven fields—drama, dance, music, tradition, visual arts, literature, and crafts—will participate.
The program will take place as a relay across seven venues, including the genre-based hub spaces of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture.
At the Yeonhui Literary Creative Village on the 18th and 25th, under the theme “Ways of Gathering Through Literature 2026—Literature Across Eras,” writers who have devoted their lives to literature will share their works and experiences with the public.
On the 20th, the Seoul Arts Education Center Gangbuk will present “The Sound of All Those Days,” featuring the life story and performances of a Gayageum master. At the Seoul Dance Center on the 22nd and 24th, under the theme “Next Legacy,” performances of representative dance works and dialogues will be held, providing an opportunity to discuss the depth and future of dance with younger generations and the public.
In the field of crafts, on the 31st at the Seoul Museum of Craft Art, the program will explore the life and artistic world of sculptor Kim Yoonsin under the theme “How a Single Work Becomes an Epoch.” Discussions will also address the perseverance of creativity among senior and junior artists and the audience.
At the Seoul Arts Education Center Seocho on November 21 and 24, the programs “500 Stages, A Life in Front of the Keyboard” and “Resting with the Flute,” respectively, will be held. These sessions offer an occasion to listen to the life stories and experiences of senior musicians and to appreciate music that has been refined over many years.
At the Seoul Theater Center from November 24 to 26, “Replay (Re; Play)” will be held three times. Through readings and performances of productions that once represented Daehak-ro, along with talks and an archive exhibition, the program will revisit the history of Korean theater.
On December 19, at Geumcheon Art Factory, “The Veteran Artist’s Guide: LAMP (Learning through Art Mentorship Program)” will be held. This program consists of lectures, talks, and participatory activities in which resident artists and veteran artists together share the creative and critical process.
Song Hyungjong, CEO of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, said, “Not only are the works of senior artists valuable, but the experiences and stories they have accumulated over many years are themselves precious artistic assets. We hope that this ‘Masterpiece Talk’ will provide fresh inspiration to younger artists and citizens and grow into a place where the values of art can be shared across generations.”
