On October 2, Gumi City announced that it signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Thailand’s Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) at City Hall to strengthen economic cooperation in the secondary battery sector.
The signing ceremony was attended by Gumi Mayor Joungho Kim and Panita Chinnawat, Acting Director of OSMEP in Thailand, among others.
Both sides agreed to support the entry of Gumi’s secondary battery materials, parts, and equipment companies into the Thai market, as well as to help expand local investments and sales channels. They also pledged to promote Thai companies’ investments in Gumi and to facilitate their entry into Gumi’s industrial complexes. Further, both parties plan to boost investment, technology, and workforce exchanges between companies.
As Thailand is fostering the electric vehicle and secondary battery industries as key drivers of future growth, this agreement is expected to serve as a new bridgehead for Gumi-based secondary battery companies seeking to enter the Southeast Asian market.
Mayor Joungho Kim stated, “This cooperation marks the starting point for Gumi’s secondary battery industry to expand from the domestic market into the global arena,” adding, “We will actively support local companies’ overseas expansion and attract Thai investment into Gumi.”
