Clubs Swung and Kicking Erupt in Pyeongtaek: Two Foreigners Arrested in Group Fight
Brawl Involving Around Ten People Breaks Out at Park; Police Receive Emergency Call
Two Men in Their 20s, Russian and Kyrgyzstani Nationals, Arrested
At a park in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, a group fight involving around ten foreigners broke out. Police arrested two individuals at the scene and are currently tracking down the remaining group members.
According to a report by Yonhap News Agency on October 4, citing the Pyeongtaek Police Station, a 112 emergency call was received at around 11:30 p.m. on October 3, stating that “several foreigners are engaged in a group fight” at a park in Poseung-eup, Pyeongtaek.
In a video recorded by a member of the local crime prevention patrol who witnessed the scene, several foreigners can be seen surrounding a man and assaulting him. Some participants were seen wielding clubs or kicking at a person who had fallen to the ground, and when the patrol approached, members of the group were observed scattering and fleeing the scene.
Responding to the report, police arrested two men in their 20s at the scene—one identified as a Russian national (Mr. A) and the other as a Kyrgyzstani national (Mr. B)—on charges of violating the Act on Punishment of Violent Acts.

Police are also questioning two other foreigners who were present at the scene as witnesses. In addition, they are working to identify and trace the whereabouts of the remaining group members who left the scene after engaging in the fight.
A police official explained that Mr. A and others were arrested because they attempted to evade investigation and flee the scene. Wooden staffs and other objects were found in their vehicle. However, authorities are not ruling out the possibility that Mr. A and his companion may have been unilaterally assaulted, and the exact circumstances of the incident will be clarified through further investigation.
Furthermore, as the arrested individuals reportedly do not have sufficient Korean language proficiency, police plan to use interpreters to investigate the circumstances leading up to the fight and the specific motives behind the incident.
