Uiseong County announced that, on October 2, it hosted a mid-term briefing session for the research project titled “Establishment of Core Implementation Strategies and Working Group Operations for the New Airport” at the county office’s video conference room.
This research project, which began in March 2026 and will conclude in December, aims to formulate concrete execution strategies to develop the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport as a logistics-specialized hub.
Key areas of study include the efficient layout of cargo terminals and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facilities, strategies to facilitate air logistics and attract related companies, specialized strategies for the aircraft maintenance sector, and development directions for the airport new town.
During the session, participants reviewed the progress of each field and assessed supplementary tasks based on the research results to date.
In particular, the optimization of cargo terminal and MRO facility placement, future expansion plans, incentives, and regulatory easing measures to attract relevant companies were major agenda items. Opinions were also exchanged on plans for developing a next-generation airport new town focusing on mobility functions linked to the airport.
Uiseong County plans to incorporate the feedback gathered from the mid-term session into the research project, and intends to further refine sector-specific execution strategies through expert consultation and coordination with relevant organizations.
Additionally, the county will develop detailed action items and a phased roadmap to ensure that the research findings are implemented in actual administration and business projects.
Choi Yucheol, head of Uiseong County, stated, “The Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport is an important opportunity to establish a new growth base for Uiseong’s future. We will prepare effective strategies to ensure seamless integration between the core airport infrastructure and local industries, and to facilitate company attraction and job creation.”

The article clarifies its structure, following the flow of “logistics-specialized airport → cargo terminal & MRO → company attraction → airport new town,” without adding any unverified forecasts or evaluations.
The competitiveness of the new airport depends not merely on building runways and terminals, but on how effectively logistics, MRO, companies, and urban functions are interconnected.
