Welcome Savings Bank Also Suffers Data Leak... Estimated 2,200 Corporate Customer Records Exposed
Amid a series of hacking attacks on the financial sector that have resulted in information leaks, it has been revealed that corporate customer information was also leaked from Welcome Savings Bank. There is evidence that hackers using artificial intelligence (AI) agents have targeted not only major commercial banks but also savings banks, capital firms (installment financing companies), and mutual finance institutions across the board.
According to the financial industry on October 4, Welcome Savings Bank discovered a hacking attack related to its corporate customers during an in-house inspection conducted the previous day, and reported the incident to the authorities. It is estimated that up to 2,200 pieces of information, including corporate names, contact person names, email addresses, and phone numbers, were leaked. Welcome Savings Bank is currently working to determine the exact cause and scale of the leak.

Meanwhile, the Cyber Terror Response Team of the National Police Agency has launched a pre-investigation (internal inquiry) into the simultaneous information leaks impacting the banking sector. The investigation covers institutions where hacking incidents have been officially confirmed, including Shinhan Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, Hana Bank, and BNK Busan Bank. If a formal investigation is initiated, this case will become the first major cyber incident handled by the police since the reorganization of the criminal justice system following the enforcement of the revised Code of Criminal Procedure on October 2.
