"Uncle Will Buy Them All for Wonie"... Men in Their 30s Sweep Up 600,000 'RESCENE Bread'
Convenience Store Industry Boosts Sales Through Active Collaborations
The sales volume of the five types of "RESCENE Bread," created in collaboration with the group RESCENE, which is currently enjoying peak popularity, has reached 600,000 units.
According to the retail industry on October 4, the five types of "RESCENE Bread" launched by BGF Retail, which operates the convenience store chain CU, recorded a cumulative sales volume of about 600,000 units as of October 1. Starting with "Wonie's Corn Cream Bread" on September 17, CU has been sequentially releasing the "RESCENE Bread" line-up, reflecting the tastes of RESCENE members—culminating on September 30 with "Riv's Choco Hotteok." Each product randomly includes one of a total of 27 clear photo cards featuring the images of RESCENE members. It is estimated that strong sales performance has been driven by fans' passion for collecting these photo cards.
When segmenting RESCENE Bread buyers by gender, 69.1% were male and 30.9% were female. Among all customers, the largest proportion was men in their 30s, accounting for 22.7%, followed by men in their 40s at 18.6%. Additional breakdowns include: men in their 20s—15.8%, women in their 40s—10.5%, women in their 30s—7.2%, women in their 20s—6.8%, men aged 50 and above—6.2%, men in their teens—5.8%, women aged 50 and above—5.7%, and women in their teens—0.7%.
Meanwhile, the convenience store industry has been actively increasing the number of collaborative products recently. GS Retail, which operates GS25, launched "Minumsa Bread" on August 21 in collaboration with the publisher Minumsa. Four products in total were offered, each randomly packaged with one of 20 different bookmarks: 15 bookmarks featuring works from the Minumsa World Literature Collection and 5 inspired by poetry collections. As the design and phrases on the bookmarks gained popularity on social media, more than 1.6 million units were sold by the end of last month after the launch.
