Jang Donghyuk Tells KPTU's Hunger-Striking Chief: "Public Institution Integration Being Rushed"
Kim Minseok Listens to On-site Opinions and Concerns About Communication Gaps
Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, visited Lee Jiwoong, chairman of the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union Federation (KPTU), who is holding a hunger strike in front of the National Assembly. Jang criticized the Lee Jaemyoung administration for pushing ahead with major policies, such as the integration of public institutions, in a hasty and unprepared manner.
On October 3, Jang met with Chairman Lee, who was on his sixth day of fasting, and said, "Without any preparation, they are recklessly pushing policies, saying they will make changes only after problems arise. I believe the issue of public institution consolidation has also been handled in this same context."
He continued, "They are pushing ahead without due consideration for things that could lead to the collapse of systems and threaten national security. When government policies go in the wrong direction or are advanced too hastily, it is the role of the opposition to adjust the speed and correct what is wrong, and we will monitor this closely."
Kim Minseok, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, also visited Chairman Lee on the same day. Spokeswoman Shin Hyunyoung stated in a briefing on October 3 that Chairman Kim listened to on-site opinions regarding the consolidation and abolishment of public institutions and concerns about a lack of communication.
