President Lee: "We Will Lower the Threshold So No One Misses Out on Welfare Due to Lack of Awareness"
President Lee Jae-myung announced on the 3rd that the government will lower the threshold for welfare so that no one misses out on necessary benefits simply because they are unaware or unable to apply.
On this day, President Lee posted on X (formerly Twitter), "Transitioning from welfare that requires an application to welfare where the state takes the initiative to provide support!" He also introduced that a legal basis has now been established to ensure that qualified individuals do not miss out on benefits such as child allowances or parental benefits simply because they fail to apply.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, on October 1, six amendments to relevant laws aimed at improving the application-based approach to welfare benefits were passed at the National Assembly plenary session. Previously, even if someone was eligible for welfare benefits, they could not receive support without applying. However, from now on, the law has been revised so that if eligibility is confirmed by using information already held by the state, benefits will be provided automatically.
