Blue House Responds to Kim Yo-jong’s Statement: “Defamatory Remarks Are Unhelpful… North Should Stop Criticism and Join Peace Efforts”
On the 2nd, the Blue House responded to Kim Yo-jong, Deputy Director of the North Korean Workers’ Party, stating, “Defamatory remarks against our government and the president do not help build mutual trust,” and added, “The government will conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the recent landmine explosion incident, transparently disclose the facts of the case, and take the necessary measures.”
The Blue House continued, “At the same time, in order to prevent such incidents from recurring, it is necessary to ease military tensions between the two Koreas and to resume dialogue and communication,” and urged, “The North should stop its unproductive criticism and join our efforts for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.”
Earlier that day, Deputy Director Kim, via the Korean Central News Agency, criticized, “Those at the bottom like smelt are busy finding fault with others, talking about the release of investigation results and official statements.” She also mocked President Lee’s remarks in his Armed Forces Day address that he would continue efforts to reduce military tensions between the two Koreas, saying, “It appears that the second act of their self-produced comedy is underway.”
While Unification Minister Chung Dong-young proposed talks to resolve differences regarding the Military Demarcation Line (MDL), Deputy Director Kim reportedly rejected the idea, describing it as “not worth a response and nothing but a unilateral monologue,” according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency on this day. Kim also asserted, “The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will not discuss military sovereignty issues with a hostile country under any circumstances” and stated, “Facing South Korea itself is a nightmare,” delivering a harsh response.
