Amid a series of hacking attacks targeting the banking sector, it has been confirmed that all five major commercial banks have suffered attacks.
According to the financial sector on October 2, all five major commercial banks—KB Kookmin Bank, Shinhan Bank, Hana Bank, Woori Bank, and NH NongHyup Bank—have been subjected to external hacking attacks.
On the same day, customer information of 89 individuals was leaked due to a hacking attack at Hana Bank. After confirming an attempted external hacking attack, Woori Bank took response measures such as blocking suspicious IP addresses. NH NongHyup Bank also blocked external hacking attacks using its security system. Both banks have so far reported no additional damages such as information leaks.
Previously, on September 30, Shinhan Bank confirmed that the personal information of approximately 25,000 customers was leaked by an unauthorized external party who bypassed the identification process in its loan agent service. At KB Kookmin Bank, information of about 100 customers was recently leaked due to an external breach. The leaked information was from a mobile work support system used by employees and is known to be unrelated to customer financial transactions such as internet banking or mobile banking.
On the same day, at Busan Bank, the personal information of 11 external contractors was leaked, showing that data leak incidents continue across the entire banking sector.
