On October 2, Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, stated, "Together with our citizens, we will go beyond today’s growth and build a better future." He said, "Rather than remaining stagnant in the face of challenges, Gwangmyeong has sought out possibilities and led the necessary changes to become an ever-better city, with our citizens always at the center of this progress."
He continued, "As we stand on the threshold of even greater growth, we will enhance the dignity of our administration to match the city's development and deepen trust and responsibility alongside the pace of change. We will ensure that the more important the policy, the more transparently it is disclosed, that we are more present on the ground, and that we listen even more closely to the voices of citizens, delivering a responsible city administration."
Mayor Park emphasized a "circular growth economy" that links everyday livelihoods with urban progress. By supporting the local economy through Gwangmyeong Sarang gift certificates and assistance to neighborhood businesses, and by attracting the K-Arena as a hub for competitive companies and the cultural industry, he aims to diversify growth engines. This plan focuses on creating a virtuous economic cycle in which the vitality of neighborhood businesses leads to corporate growth and new jobs.
The city will also advance the "AI-based fundamental society" by integrating AI into citizens' daily lives. Initiatives include promoting a carbon-neutral smart city that connects energy, transportation, safety, and data, as well as supporting the AI transformation of local companies and providing AI education for citizens—measures intended to extend the benefits of technological advancement to everyday life.
Youth support policies will expand beyond employment to cover housing, education, mental well-being, health, and independence—purposefully aiming to ensure that changes brought by AI and high-tech industries translate into jobs, entrepreneurship, and learning opportunities for young people.
The city will also work to establish a "basic city that guarantees living area rights" by increasing accessibility to transportation and essential lifestyle services. This will involve expanding metropolitan rail networks and roads, and increasing civic infrastructure such as public libraries, parks, and sports facilities, so that citizens can access necessary services nearby.
Mentioning the city’s newly enacted ordinance establishing a constitution-friendly city, Mayor Park stressed, "We will unwaveringly uphold the principles that sovereignty belongs to the people and that fundamental rights are the standard for governance, ensuring firmly that citizens remain the true owners of the city."
