Anthropic Plans to Go Public as Early as Mid-November... "Valuation Up to $2 Trillion"
Bloomberg: IPO Marketing Could Begin Week of November 9
Anthropic, the developer of the generative artificial intelligence (AI) model Claude, is planning to go public as early as mid-November. Despite growing uncertainty in the IPO market caused by recent AI safety controversies and sluggish performances of newly listed stocks, potential investors are reportedly valuing Anthropic at up to $2 trillion.
According to Bloomberg on the 1st (local time), Anthropic is expected to begin its official IPO marketing as early as the second week of November. If the process proceeds as scheduled, Anthropic’s shares could begin trading on the stock market before Thanksgiving Day on the 26th of that month.
Anthropic had originally planned to release its IPO application documents after the summer, but postponed its listing schedule. Sources expect the company to be listed by the end of the year at the latest, but noted that the timeline could change further as discussions are still ongoing.
The market expects Anthropic’s appropriate corporate valuation to range from $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion. Bloomberg previously reported that Anthropic is targeting fundraising amounts that could match or surpass the record IPO size of SpaceX.
Such expectations stem from Anthropic’s rapid sales growth. Last year, Anthropic recorded approximately $4.6 billion in revenue, more than 14 times higher than the previous year’s $386 million. However, the company’s operating loss during the same period also ballooned to over $8 billion. Net loss surged as well, increasing by five times year-on-year to approximately $42 billion. Of this, more than $34 billion was due to losses from changes in the fair value of debt. This means that most of the net loss was caused by accounting valuation fluctuations.
The market is also closely watching the issue of AI safety that has come to the fore ahead of the listing. Recent incidents of AI agent hacking have heightened concerns over AI safety. According to reports, Anthropic’s IPO documents include statements that while AI can significantly boost productivity, it can also pose serious risks such as autonomous actions.
