Exports from January to September Surpass Last Year's Total Export Value

1. Ha Jun Kyung, the current Senior Presidential Secretary for Economic Growth, has been promoted and appointed as the new policy chief at the Blue House.
This comes just one month after the resignation of Policy Chief Kim Yong Bum was accepted. Mun Sinhak, the current Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has been appointed as the new Senior Presidential Secretary for Economic Growth, and Park Jeonghyeon, the former mayor of Buyeo County, has been appointed as Chairperson of the Committee for the Era of Local Autonomy. In addition, Song Young Gil, an assemblyman from the Democratic Party of Korea, has been appointed Special Advisor for Peace and Diplomacy, and Kim Byung Joo, also from the Democratic Party, has been appointed Special Advisor for National Defense Policy.
2. September exports surpassed 120 billion dollars, marking the highest monthly export record ever.
Furthermore, from January to September, export value reached 814.5 billion dollars, already exceeding last year's record-high annual export volume of 709.3 billion dollars.
3. In response to U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement that Korea will invest in the Alaska LNG development project, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stressed that no decision has been finalized yet.
The ministry stated, "We have only begun discussions based on commercial viability and in accordance with relevant domestic legal procedures," and emphasized, "No final decision has been made regarding whether to invest or on the scale of such investment."
4. Six domestic petrochemical companies and their management, suspected of large-scale price collusion in cases worth 16 trillion won investigated by prosecutors, have been brought to trial, marking an unprecedented scale.
According to prosecutors, between January 2021 and April of this year, they are accused of engaging in collusion involving eight petrochemical products, including PVC, plasticizer, caustic soda, and hydrochloric acid.

4. This year, the population aged 65 and over accounted for over 21% of the total population, with Jeonnam having the highest proportion and Sejong the lowest.
By 2050, this share is projected to exceed 40%. The relative poverty rate among the elderly was 37.7%, remaining the highest among member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
