Yeungjin College Records 7.4:1 Competition Rate in First Early Admissions... Semiconductor, New and Renewable Energy, and AI Convergence Machinery Highly Popular
Yeungjin College (President Choi Jaeyoung) announced on October 1 that the first round of early admissions for the 2027 academic year had closed with 13,896 applicants for 1,885 available spots (within standard quota), marking an average competition rate of 7.4 to 1.
This competition rate is higher than last year's first early admissions round, which stood at 5.8 to 1. The number of applicants also increased by 2,915, or 26.5%, from 10,981 last year.
The engineering field attracted 5,142 applicants, an increase of 1,691 compared to 3,451 last year, representing a 49.0% rise. Approximately 58% of the total increase in applicants (2,915) was concentrated in the engineering field.
The semiconductor and electronics program stood out the most within the engineering field this year. The number of applicants increased by 765, from 830 last year to 1,595 this year, an impressive growth rate of 92.2%. With the number of applicants nearly doubling, this year's early admissions reflected high interest in the semiconductor sector among prospective students.
The semiconductor and electronics program signed an order-based education agreement with SK hynix in 2004 to train semiconductor process equipment maintenance personnel and has since placed more than 400 graduates at SK hynix. Across the entire program, more than 700 graduates have been employed by large corporations or overseas companies.
The AI Convergence Machinery Program received 1,002 applications for 200 available spots, resulting in a competition rate of 5.0 to 1. The number of applicants increased by 37.1% compared to last year.
The AI Convergence Machinery Program operates order-based education tracks by industry sector, such as the Semiconductor Equipment Design Track, Smart Machinery Design Track, Smart Mold Track, Machinery Automation Track, Petrochemical Plant Track, AI Convergence Machinery Track, and Intelligent Robot Track, strengthening job-centered education tailored to industry needs.
In the robotics and automation fields, the college provides practical education on semiconductor manufacturing automation equipment, intelligent robots, and smart factories, developing a field-oriented educational foundation that enables students to move on to leading companies such as LG, Samsung, SK hynix, SEMES, and SFA. In the energy and chemical plant sector, graduates are expanding their career prospects into various industries, including POSCO Future M, Hanwha Aerospace, SK Energy, Hyundai Oilbank, LG Chem, Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, POSCO, and Hyundai Steel.
The New and Renewable Energy Electrical Program also saw 805 applicants for 122 places, recording a competition rate of 6.6 to 1. The number of applicants increased by 64.6% year-on-year.
For the Nursing Department's specialized high school track, there were 294 applicants for 10 spots—a competition rate of 29.4 to 1. The Broadcasting and Video Media Department's general high school track had 162 applications for 7 spots, resulting in a 23.1 to 1 ratio, and the Medical K-Beauty Department's general high school track received 222 applications for 10 places, for a competition rate of 22.2 to 1, respectively.
Among all applicants, 73% were aged 20 or younger, with the majority being current third-year high school students, and if those aged 21 to 25 are included, approximately 90% of all applicants were 25 or younger.

Jihoon Lee, Director of Admissions at Yeungjin College, commented, "Despite a continued decline in the school-age population, the number of applicants increased compared to last year, and it is especially significant that about 90% of all applicants are school-age candidates aged 25 or younger. The results appear to reflect strong interest in Yeungjin's long-established order-based education in partnership with companies and its track record of employment at major domestic firms such as Samsung and SK hynix, as well as overseas placements."
