Gyeonggi Province Launches Apartment Quality Inspection Corps... 130 Experts to Begin Work on October 1
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has appointed the 11th Gyeonggi Province Apartment Quality Inspection Corps, comprising 130 private-sector experts, to prevent poor construction in newly built apartments and improve construction quality.
The Apartment Quality Inspection Corps is made up of professionals in 12 fields, including architecture, landscaping, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and fire safety. They begin their activities on October 1, 2026, and will continue for two years until September 30, 2028.
Gyeonggi Province has especially increased the number of structural engineering specialists from 7 to 10 to strengthen quality and safety inspections at the early stages of apartment construction. These structural specialists, along with other experts, will visit apartment construction sites to inspect the construction status, as well as residents' convenience and safety.
The province is operating the inspection regime by expanding both the number of targets and frequency of inspections compared to the standards defined in national law. While the law requires apartment complexes with 300 households or more to undergo a quality inspection before occupancy approval, the province has expanded the coverage through ordinance and now conducts four quality inspections—during frame construction, upon frame completion, before occupancy approval, and through a post-occupancy inspection.
The Apartment Quality Inspection Corps is a system introduced by Gyeonggi Province in 2006 to prevent poor apartment construction and enhance apartment quality. Its necessity was recognized nationwide, leading to the revision of the Housing Act in January 2021, which expanded the apartment quality inspection system across the country.
