Taewook Kang of Pacific Law Firm Receives Commendation from Chairperson of Personal Information Protection Commission

Taewook Kang, Attorney at Pacific Law Firm (Judicial Research and Training Institute, 31st Class), was awarded a commendation by the Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission for his contributions to the development of personal information protection laws and systems.
Pacific Law Firm announced that Attorney Kang received the award from the Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission at the ceremony for the 6th Personal Information Protection Day held on September 30, 2026. The event, held under the theme "An Innovative AI Society that Leaps Forward with Trust," was attended by more than 300 people, including contributors to personal information protection and representatives from industry, government, and academia.
Kang graduated from the Department of Law at Seoul National University and entered the legal profession as a judge in 2002 after completing the Judicial Research and Training Institute. Since joining Pacific Law Firm in 2007, he has provided legal counsel and litigation services in areas such as broadcasting and communications, personal information, gaming and content, and intellectual property (IP).
He has served as an advisory attorney for the Personal Information Protection Commission and participated in relevant government departments and specialized committees, contributing to the development of policies and systems for personal information protection and data utilization. He has consistently taken part in discussions on amendments to the Personal Information Protection Act and system improvements, and continues to advise on regulatory issues related to AI law. Last year, he was also awarded a commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for his contributions to the development of the content industry.

Attorney Kang stated, "As the AI industry advances and data utilization expands, ensuring the safe protection of personal information and establishing a trustworthy foundation for its use are becoming increasingly important," and added, "I will continue to contribute to the advancement of the personal information protection system and its responsible utilization."
