Optical Communication Specialist 'Phiraphotonics' Donates Two Core Semiconductor Research Equipment Components to DGIST
On September 29, DGIST (President Lee Kunwoo) announced that it had received a donation from Phiraphotonics Co., Ltd.—a company specializing in the development of optical communication devices, modules, and systems—comprising two core semiconductor research equipment components valued at KRW 300 million. These donated components will be used in shared research equipment located at the DGIST Next-Generation Sensor and Semiconductor Research Institute’s FAB, enhancing the stable operation of the equipment as well as the efficiency of research and process support.
This donation was arranged to enhance the operational stability of FAB equipment, which constitutes the foundation of semiconductor research, and to provide researchers with a more reliable processing environment.

By reducing research interruptions caused by equipment downtime, the donation is expected to increase the utilization rate and operational stability of the equipment and processing services, thereby providing more efficient support for research and development in next-generation sensors and semiconductors.
Taking this opportunity, DGIST and the company plan not only to expand research infrastructure but also to deepen technical exchanges between industry and research institutions and to continue fostering sustainable industry-academia-research cooperation in the next-generation sensor and semiconductor sectors.
Kim Daehwan, Director of the DGIST Next-Generation Sensor and Semiconductor Research Institute, stated, "With the donated components, we will further advance and refine the research infrastructure within the FAB and strive to produce world-class research outcomes in the fields of next-generation sensors and semiconductors."
A representative of Phiraphotonics Co., Ltd. commented, "We hope this donation will help elevate the laboratory’s experimental and processing environment and serve as a foundation for technological innovation that will propel the future semiconductor industry."
