Expansion of AI Semiconductor Collaboration with Samsung and SK Recognized
Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, has been honored with this year's James A. Van Fleet Award in recognition of his contributions to technological cooperation with Korea. With the growth of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, the collaboration between Nvidia and Korean companies is now seen as a central pillar of Korea-U.S. economic relations.
The Korea Society held its annual gala at Cipriani South Street in New York on the evening of the 28th (local time), presenting the award to CEO Huang. The Korea Society explained that Nvidia first established relationships with Korean companies through early partnerships with game developers and tech firms, and subsequently expanded collaboration into next-generation AI memory and semiconductor manufacturing. The organization also referenced cooperation with companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Group, Naver, and Hyundai Motor Group.
Abraham Kim, President of The Korea Society, stated, "We are honored to recognize CEO Huang’s leadership and Nvidia’s longstanding partnerships with Korea’s leading innovation companies," adding that, "the collaboration between businesses from both countries will drive the next era of technological change and further strengthen Korea-U.S. cooperation."
CEO Huang, who founded Nvidia in 1993, has developed the graphics processing unit (GPU) into a core semiconductor for AI operations, leading the growth of the AI industry. As the importance of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI servers continues to rise, collaboration between Nvidia and Korean semiconductor companies is receiving even greater attention.

Meanwhile, the Van Fleet Award is presented annually by The Korea Society to individuals and organizations that have contributed to the advancement of Korea-U.S. relations. It is named after General James Van Fleet, who served as commander of the 8th U.S. Army during the Korean War and became the first president of The Korea Society in 1957. Previous recipients include former President Kim Dae-jung, former U.S. presidents George H. W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, and George W. Bush, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and BTS.
