[NagoyaAG] Diver Youngnam Kim Wins Silver in 1m Springboard... Sixth Career Asian Games Medal
Veteran diver Youngnam Kim won his first individual Asian Games medal in men’s diving, claiming the silver.
On September 28, at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre in Japan during the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, Youngnam Kim scored a total of 373.30 points across six rounds in the men's 1m springboard final, securing second place. The gold medal went to China’s Wang Zongyuan, who earned 442.75 points.
This marks the first time Youngnam Kim has won an Asian Games medal in an individual event. Since his Asian Games debut at the 2014 Incheon Games, up to the 2022 Hangzhou Games, he had won a total of five medals—four silvers and one bronze—all in synchronized events, which involve two divers performing identical moves simultaneously.
Youngnam Kim maintained a strong position from the first round by calmly executing high-difficulty routines. In particular, in the fifth round, he scored a high 68.80 points with a reverse two-and-a-half somersault, pulling ahead of his competitors.
He secured the silver medal by outscoring China’s Liu Chengzan, who finished with 361.45 points, by a margin of 11.85 points.
