Three Chinese Nationals Arrested; Two Others Remain at Large
A group of Chinese nationals who held two Chinese women captive and stole valuables from them in Jeju has been apprehended by the police.
According to Yonhap News on September 28, the Seogwipo Police Station arrested three Chinese men—two in their twenties and one in his thirties—on charges including special robbery and joint unlawful confinement. The police are also pursuing two other Chinese suspects who fled to China.
The suspects are accused of detaining two Chinese women in their twenties at a private resort in Seogwipo City around 2:30 p.m. on September 21. They allegedly confiscated the victims’ mobile phones and tablet PCs, and forced them to transfer 100,000 yuan (about 20 million won) to an account.
The incident came to light on September 22, when one of the victims escaped from the scene in the afternoon and sought help nearby. Upon receiving the report, the police arrested two of the suspects in the accommodation on the same day and caught another suspect who was attempting to leave through Jeju International Airport. The remaining two accomplices were found to have left for China before the police report was filed.
