This agreement marks the first case in which a domestic securities firm and an airline company have established a strategic partnership encompassing the supply of CORSIA credits and consignment trading of domestic greenhouse gas emission permits.
Trinity Aviation plans to align with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s aviation sector carbon reduction policy and the implementation direction of CORSIA, by linking NH Investment & Securities’ expertise in the carbon market and financial capacity to its own needs for procurement of emission permits.
The company emphasized that the significance of this MOU lies in connecting airlines’ acquisition of emission credits and cost management for procurement to the specialized services of a financial institution. Purchasing emission credits requires not only consideration of the necessary quantity and timing, but also a careful review of market prices and trading conditions. Both companies will collaborate to establish stable and efficient procurement plans based on demand information and market analysis.
As part of the collaboration, Trinity Aviation will first secure 20,000 tons of CORSIA credits through NH Investment & Securities, and plans to obtain at least 10% of the emissions that need to be offset, in stages, before the Phase 1 settlement deadline in January 2028. The two companies will use this transaction as a starting point for cooperating on CORSIA credit supply, sharing information such as projected mandatory quantity and procurement timing to strengthen the foundation for mid- to long-term procurement.
The companies will also cooperate on establishing and operating a consignment trading framework for the domestic Emissions Trading Scheme (K-ETS). NH Investment & Securities will support Trinity Aviation’s smooth trading of carbon credits through its proprietary consignment trading system for emission permits, and provide specialized information on market analysis and policy trends. As a result, Trinity Aviation will be able to establish a systematic support system that covers both domestic emissions trading and procurement of CORSIA credits.
Gunhoo Park, Head of Client Solutions Division at NH Investment & Securities, stated, "This agreement is meaningful as a strategic collaboration model that connects a securities company’s expertise in carbon finance with the real emission credit needs of airlines. We will support airlines’ stable acquisition of emission credits based on the supply of CORSIA credits and consignment trading of domestic credits, and expand customized carbon finance services that help respond to procurement costs and market fluctuations."
