Onconic Therapeutics Unveils Obesity Drug Candidate to Be Presented at US Conference in November
Expanding the Pipeline Beyond Zaqubo and Nesuparib
Onconic Therapeutics will present a new drug candidate to succeed Zaqubo and Nesuparib for the first time at a global academic conference on obesity.
Onconic Therapeutics announced on September 28 that the first official research findings for the new drug candidate have been selected for an oral presentation as a Late-Breaking Abstract at "ObesityWeek 2026," to be held in Washington, D.C., USA, in November.
This candidate, which follows the company's internally developed and commercialized gastroesophageal reflux disease drug Zaqubo and their anticancer drug candidate Nesuparib, represents the next generation in Onconic Therapeutics’ pipeline. The company plans to accelerate research and development of this new candidate, starting with this conference. However, the pipeline name, specific research content, and results concerning this candidate have not yet been disclosed due to the embargo policy of the conference. Onconic Therapeutics will gradually release the relevant information in accordance with the event schedule.
ObesityWeek is an academic conference specializing in obesity, hosted by The Obesity Society in the United States. The conference covers research ranging from basic metabolic studies to new drug development, clinical trials, nutrition, behavioral science, and health policy. Notably, the Late-Breaking Abstract category comprehensively evaluates factors such as ‘Significance,’ which assesses the importance and novelty of the research, as well as the methods, results, and conclusions. Onconic Therapeutics’ research was selected for both abstract acceptance and oral presentation after undergoing this review process.
Fueled by the growth of GLP-1 class therapies, the global obesity treatment market is expanding rapidly. According to pharmaceutical market research firm IQVIA, the global obesity treatment market is projected to grow from approximately USD 66 billion in 2025 to around USD 92 billion in 2026.
