Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) has newly constructed an additional 0.7 km section of main forest road in the area of San 49-1, Hakil-ri, Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu. This is the second phase following last year’s completion of a 1.4 km section.

View original imageAccording to Yongin City on the 27th, the construction began in May after investing a project cost of KRW 256.78 million and passed its completion inspection on the 23rd.
The slope of the new segment was reduced to below 8% to accommodate vehicle traffic. The city also improved drainage facilities and embankments, and reinforced structures to prevent landslides and soil erosion.
With the extension of the forest road, Yongin City expects it will be much easier for management vehicles and personnel to enter the forest in the event of wildfires or other forest disasters. The road will also be used for transporting forest project equipment and for routine forest management. Since 2024, the city has been constructing a 2.8 km main forest road in the Hakil-ri section, following assessments on the road's feasibility.
The city plans to complete the remaining sections by the end of 2027 and then connect the Hakil-ri forest road with the Korea Forest Service’s road network. Through this, a circular forest road network will be established, linking the forest areas of Wonsam-myeon and Idong-eup.

A Yongin City official stated, "We expect this construction project will improve accessibility for forestry equipment and personnel, contributing to more efficient forest management. We will continue to expand the infrastructure for forest management to respond proactively to forest disasters and make it easier for citizens to use the forests."
