Trump: "Discussing Security, Technology, and Superintelligence with Xi Jinping... Today's Decisions Will Shape Decades Ahead"
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on September 24 (local time) that he would discuss security, technology, and superintelligence (SI) issues with Chinese President Xi Jinping. While the two countries continue to cooperate in the field of trade, President Trump indicated that current issues between the U.S. and China would also be brought to the summit table.
During a speech at the welcoming ceremony for President Xi’s state visit, held at the White House that day, President Trump said, "During this visit, we will discuss pressing issues regarding security, technology, and superintelligence." He continued, "The decisions we make in these areas today have the power to promote peace and prosperity for decades to come." He added, "I am confident that if we focus on our mutual interests, there is much we can achieve together."
President Trump also emphasized trade cooperation between the two countries. Referring to the U.S.-China Trade Commission formed during his visit to Beijing last May, he commented, "We have made tremendous progress on the issues facing our two countries." He also stated that working-level officials from both sides have been striving to create a "more balanced trade relationship," which includes new market access for American farmers and ranchers.
He also highlighted his personal relationship with President Xi. President Trump said that since his first election victory in 2016, the two leaders have built "a truly great friendship based on mutual respect and the vital interests of our peoples." He remarked that although they have spent time together in Germany, Argentina, Japan, Korea, Beijing, and Palm Beach, Florida, this was the first time they were meeting at the White House.
