The Chinese state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that on the 23rd (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping, who was on a state visit to the United States, and stated, "President Xi is a great leader."
On the 24th, Xinhua News Agency reported that President Trump and First Lady Melania warmly greeted President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, as they arrived in Washington on a private jet.

In his written speech, President Xi stated, "China and the United States are both great nations, and the peoples of China and America are both great peoples."
He went on to say, "Both sides should prioritize cooperation and ensure that competition stays within appropriate bounds, and any differences must be managed so they remain controllable." He added, "We should work to build a stable relationship that allows for peace."
The Chinese delegation visiting the U.S. this time includes Cai Qi, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, and Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
