Won-Taek Lee Serves as Honorary Stationmaster at Jeonju Station: "Jeolla Line High-Speed Rail Must Pass Preliminary Feasibility Study"
Welcoming Chuseok Travelers and Communicating On-Site Through Station Operations Experience
Ahead of the Chuseok homecoming rush, Won-Taek Lee, Governor of Jeonbuk Special Autonomous Province, visited Jeonju Station to personally welcome rail passengers and emphasize the necessity of the Jeolla Line high-speed rail project. On the 23rd, Lee took part in the ‘One-Day Honorary Stationmaster’ event organized by Korail’s Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters, where he received an appointment letter, greeted homecoming travelers, and experienced station operations such as assisting passengers with train information. He also offered words of encouragement to front-line workers responsible for railway operations during the holiday period.

Governor Lee distributed promotional materials about the Hometown Love Donation Campaign to homecoming travelers, introduced special Chuseok events, and called for greater interest in and donations to Jeonbuk.
Governor Lee also participated in a placard campaign urging the approval of the preliminary feasibility study for the Jeolla Line high-speed rail project, once again highlighting the government’s need to push the project forward.
The Jeolla Line is a railway network connecting Jeonju with Suncheon and Yeosu, linking major tourist destinations such as Jeonju Hanok Village, Suncheon Bay Wetland Reserve, and the Yeosu Expo grounds. Although double-track electrification was completed in 2012, many have pointed out that frequent track curves limit the operation speed of high-speed trains and continue to pose challenges in reducing travel time.
The Jeonbuk Provincial Government expects that, if the Jeolla Line high-speed rail project moves forward, it will significantly improve rail accessibility for Jeonbuk and the eastern Honam region, enhance convenience for travelers, and promote greater regional exchange.
Governor Won-Taek Lee stated, “High-speed rail on the Jeolla Line is a national task that can no longer be delayed, to ensure that everyone in the country can travel quickly and comfortably. We will do everything in our power to ensure the ongoing preliminary feasibility study passes.”
