Eco-Friendly Vehicle Toll Discount on Gwangju Second Ring Road Expanded Citywide from October
Discount Coverage Expands from Five Gwangju Districts to Entire Jeonnam Gwangju
50% Discount Maintained Through This Year… 30% Rate to Apply from Next Year
Starting from October 1, all registered eco-friendly vehicles across the Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City will receive a 50% discount on tolls for the Gwangju Second Ring Road. Previously, the discount applied only to vehicles registered in the five autonomous districts of Gwangju.
On September 23, the Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City announced that, beginning October 1, the toll discount for eco-friendly vehicles on the Second Ring Road will be expanded to cover the entire integrated special city.
The eligible vehicles are eco-friendly cars—such as electric, hydrogen, and solar-powered vehicles—with their registered address of use within the integrated special city. As before, vehicles belonging to organizations for the disabled are eligible for a discount regardless of their place of registration nationwide.
The ordinance titled "Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City Toll Road Toll Collection and Operation Ordinance" containing these updates passed the special city council’s plenary session on September 18. Following the launch of the integrated special city, the previous "Gwangju Metropolitan City Toll Road Toll Collection and Operation Ordinance" was repealed and a new ordinance enacted.
The eco-friendly vehicle toll discount rate will remain at 50% through the end of this year. Starting January 1 next year, it will be reduced to 30%. As a result, small vehicles will pay 600 won until the end of this year, and 840 won from next year. For medium vehicles, the fee will increase from 1,150 won to 1,610 won, and for large vehicles, from 1,450 won to 2,030 won.
The number of locations where users can apply for the discount will also be expanded. In addition to the Gwangju government office, applications can also be submitted at the Muan and Eastern government offices.
