Their plan is to expand the scope of collaboration from research and development to technology validation, talent development, commercialization, and market expansion, aiming to foster the domestic physical AI ecosystem for manufacturing.
SKAI Intelligence announced on September 21 that it has entered into a three-party memorandum of understanding (MOU) on physical AI technology collaboration and industrial ecosystem expansion with the Physical AI Research Center at KAIST and Dime Research.
Under this agreement, the three organizations will identify joint research, business, and proof-of-concept projects to drive AI transformation at manufacturing sites. Collaboration will also extend to the development of specialized talent and technology exchanges, as well as to the advancement of domestic and international markets and the industrial ecosystem.
A key feature of this collaboration is that the institutions' respective technologies and capabilities complement each other, allowing each party to focus on different stages ranging from research to on-site implementation. The Physical AI Research Center at KAIST will focus on preemptive research and the development of core technologies related to manufacturing physical AI based on their expertise in AI, robotics, and manufacturing systems.
SKAI Intelligence is securing technological competitiveness in the manufacturing physical AI sector based on synthetic data technology. The company has been expanding its technology applications in the global manufacturing market by conducting joint proof-of-concept projects and signing strategic cooperation frameworks with partners such as ABB Robotics.
Dime Research possesses robot integrated control and orchestration technology as well as digital twin-based simulation capabilities, accumulated in manufacturing and logistics settings. The company has been pursuing the on-site implementation and commercialization of autonomous manufacturing solutions that optimize entire factory operations by linking heterogeneous robots and equipment.
At first, the three organizations will collaborate on research and business initiatives ranging from individual equipment, logistics, and robots to the operation of robot swarms. By combining their research, technological capabilities, and practical manufacturing experience, the parties plan to identify proof-of-concept projects that explore real-world applicability within production sites.
Talent development and technology exchange are also included as key areas of collaboration. To secure professionals in fields such as physical AI, digital twins, synthetic data, robotics, and autonomous manufacturing, they will jointly plan training sessions, seminars, and technical exchange programs targeting corporate and industry stakeholders. Education programs linked to real-world demonstration projects are also being prepared.
They will also carry out joint initiatives to promote ecosystem expansion. By participating in domestic and international conferences, forums, technology demos, site tours, and business matching events, they aim to broaden the interface between technology and manufacturing sites while leveraging each institution's academic, industry partner, and customer networks to discover new business opportunities.
Youngjae Jang, Director of the Physical AI Research Center at KAIST, stated, "Physical AI cannot be perfected by laboratory technology alone; it must be validated and advanced through addressing the complex problems found in actual manufacturing environments. By linking Dime Research's manufacturing site implementation capabilities and SKAI Intelligence's synthetic data technology with KAIST's research strengths, we aim to establish a virtuous cycle where the outcomes of joint research lead to field validation and industrial expansion."
Jaecheol Lee, CEO of SKAI Intelligence, commented, "This collaboration represents a significant starting point that accelerates the industrial spread of manufacturing physical AI by connecting the diverse research, technology, and manufacturing experience each of us has accumulated. We will organically leverage each institution's strengths to identify joint research, business, and demonstration projects, and further expand the manufacturing physical AI ecosystem."
Ilhoe Hwang, CTO of Dime Research, said, "For manufacturing physical AI to deliver real industrial value, it is not enough for individual AIs or robots to perform well; various robots, equipment, and systems must be seamlessly connected and operated intelligently as one flow. Together with KAIST and SKAI Intelligence, we will validate each party's technological capabilities on production floors and create practical examples that lead to autonomous manufacturing."
