KOSPI Closes Slightly Higher at 7010 After Giving Up Early Gains

On September 22, the KOSPI ended trading at 7,017.91, up 10.19 points (0.15%) from the previous day. Trading volume was provisionally tallied at 251.64 million shares, while the trading value amounted to 22.1783 trillion won.
By investor type, institutions and individuals were net sellers, offloading 119 billion won and 1.6089 trillion won, respectively, while foreigners were net buyers with 85 billion won in net purchases. In the futures market, institutions sold a net 645.7 billion won, while foreigners and individuals bought a net 222.7 billion won and 268 billion won, respectively. In program trading, net purchases totaled 68.4 billion won in arbitrage trades and 137.6 billion won in non-arbitrage trades.
Performance varied by industry sector. The construction sector rose by 2.51%, IT services by 2.27%, transportation and storage by 2.18%, machinery and equipment by 1.06%, securities by 1.05%, general services by 0.98%, real estate by 0.85%, medical precision by 0.79%, and paper and wood products by 0.73%. On the other hand, the entertainment and culture sector fell by 2.08%, pharmaceuticals by 1.0%, metals by 0.63%, chemicals by 0.62%, retail by 0.36%, and insurance by 0.21%.
Movements among the largest market cap stocks were also mixed. Samsung Electronics rose by 0.91%, SK Square by 0.53%, Samsung Electro-Mechanics by 3.99%, Hyundai Motor by 0.42%, Doosan Enerbility by 1.41%, and Shinhan Financial Group by 0.09%. Meanwhile, SK hynix declined by 1.5%, LG Energy Solution by 0.43%, Samsung Biologics by 0.78%, KB Financial Group by 1.01%, Samsung C&T by 0.14%, and Hanwha Aerospace by 0.94%.
On the day, the number of advancing stocks was provisionally counted at 383, while the number of declining stocks stood at 463. There were 68 stocks that closed unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index finished lower. The KOSDAQ closed at 834.38, down 1.89 points (0.23%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners were net sellers by 94.4 billion won and 57.9 billion won, respectively, while individuals were net buyers of 156.2 billion won.
Major KOSDAQ market cap stocks showed mixed performance. EcoPro and EcoPro BM rose by 0.25% and 0.87%, respectively, with Wonik IPS up 1.01%, Leeno Industrial up 7.45%, Simmtech up 13.31%, and ISC up 4.47%. In contrast, Alteogen fell by 2.16%, Jusung Engineering by 0.97%, Rainbow Robotics by 0.34%, EO Technics by 2.17%, and HPSP by 0.73%.
