Kakao, Armed with Data Center Operation Expertise, Cuts Cooling Power Costs by 23%
Collaboration with LG CNS: Combining Thermal Management Expertise with Data Center Operational Experience
AI Agent Deployment: Autonomous Control of Cooling Equipment
Kakao announced on September 22 that it had reduced cooling energy usage while maintaining service stability at its data center located in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, which is operated under consignment.
Kakao expanded the energy management expertise accumulated at its Ansan data center to the Hanam data center in Gyeonggi Province. Rather than replacing or expanding facilities, Kakao optimized the data hall's cooling temperature and the chilled water temperature of the chiller based on actual operational data and on-site conditions. As a result, it reduced cooling power costs by approximately 23% compared to the same period last year.

Kakao proposed measures for energy reduction, while LG CNS adjusted the operation methods of major cooling equipment such as the fan wall unit (FWU) and chillers, leveraging its data center operation know-how and on-site facility operation skills, and verified operational stability step by step.
LG CNS’s AI agent was also deployed in some data halls. This agent analyzes data from the data hall environment and equipment operation in real time and autonomously controls the cooling equipment to reduce energy usage.
An official from LG CNS stated, “This project is an example where Kakao and LG CNS prioritized data center operational stability while simultaneously improving the operational efficiency of existing equipment and applying AI-based autonomous cooling technologies. Moving forward, we will continue to help improve customers’ energy efficiency through our data center operational expertise and AI technology.”

A Kakao official said, “It is a meaningful achievement to have reduced cooling power costs by about 23% by applying the data-driven thermal management expertise gained from the Kakao Data Center Ansan to the leased data center environment. We have confirmed that it is possible to enhance energy efficiency based on operational data even in environments with limited capacity for facility replacement. Going forward, we will continue to expand environmentally friendly data center operations based on Kakao’s technical capabilities and on-site collaboration.”
