Trend Driven by Generation Z and Spreads Further with Product Reviews on Social Media
Recently, pickle-flavored products have been gaining popularity in the United States. A variety of products have emerged, including pickle cake, pickle-flavored cotton candy, and even pickle toothpaste. In particular, as more consumers—especially those from Generation Z (born in the late 1990s to early 2010s)—seek out pickle-flavored products, the related market is rapidly expanding.
On September 21 (local time), the New York Post reported, citing data from market research firm Circana, that sales of pickle-flavored products had increased by 30% over the past year. During the same period, the overall snack market grew by only 3.8%.
Various products such as pickle-flavored cotton candy and pickle hot sauce are being released. Among them, sales of pickle-flavored trail mix—which combines pickles with nuts and other ingredients—rose by 10%, surpassing the overall trail mix market growth rate of 4%.
‘Flaming Hot Dill Pickle Cheetos’ by PepsiCo, which was launched as a limited edition in 2025, recorded the fastest sales among limited editions in the brand's history and became a regular product this year.
Even pickle-flavored toothpaste has made its debut. Personal hygiene brand FreshPig introduced its pickle-flavored toothpaste, describing it as "a new, refreshing way to enjoy your favorite pickle flavor."
The pickle craze is spreading to the restaurant industry as well. Jacob's Pickles, which has locations throughout New York, is offering a ‘Pickle Plate’ that lets customers sample various types of pickles.
Maison Pickle in the Upper West Side also sells a 24-layer pickle cake. The price for one cake is $165 (about 220,000 won).
Generation Z is at the center of the pickle trend. Hormel Foods, best known for Spam and Skippy peanut butter, introduced products like dill pickle cashews and pickle-flavored pepperoni last year. Hormel Foods described Generation Z as “a generation looking for fun in their food.”
