Ministry Launches "Research Council on AI and the Future of Enterprises"
Discussions on Talent Re-skilling, Development, and Labor Market Flexibility in the AI Era
Sunghak Moon, Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, stated on the 22nd, "There needs to be new discussions in line with the changing concepts of labor in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), such as efficient allocation and movement of working hours and workforce, as well as performance and compensation."
Vice Minister Moon made these remarks while attending the launch ceremony for the "Research Council on AI and the Future of Enterprises" held at the Korea Press Center on the same day. He added, "In this era of survival of the fastest, Korea must be quick, flexible, and bold in preparing for future industries if it is to remain a manufacturing powerhouse and a leader in the AI era."
This research council, established as a follow-up to the "Forum on Corporate Investment and the Future of Labor in the AI Era" held in July this year, was formed to facilitate in-depth discussions among private sector experts on how Korean companies and industries can leverage performance and talent to create a greater foundation for growth amid the global economic transformation driven by the AI revolution. The council is chaired by Professor Andonghyun of Seoul National University, with Professor Lee Junyoung of Sungkyunkwan University and Professor Lee Sanghee of Korea Polytechnic University serving as heads of each division. It consists of 11 experts in fields such as economics, business administration, engineering, law, and talent development.

The council plans to hold extensive discussions on a wide range of topics, including strategies for corporate growth and the future in the AI era, the spread of AI transformation (AX) across industries and infrastructure building, talent education and development, and enhancement of flexible stability in the labor market. Over the next two months, the council will focus on intensive discussions to produce a policy proposal led by the private sector. After gathering additional feedback from labor, management, and experts, the proposal will be finalized and submitted to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
