201 Apply for 2nd Round of Special Appointments at SCIA
Total Applicants Now Account for 68.3% of SCIA’s Approved Headcount
A total of 201 people have applied for the second round of special appointments to the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency (SCIA), which is scheduled to launch next month.
On September 21, the SCIA Establishment Task Force at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced the results of the second round of special appointment applications, which had been open to prosecutors and staff affiliated with the prosecution from September 15 to September 20.
The eligible applicants were prosecutors; civil servants in the prosecution and narcotics investigation series at grade 7 or higher; and general administrative employees in IT, broadcasting, and telecommunications series, among others.
In the first round of special appointments, which took place last month, 2,376 people applied. However, 615 later withdrew their applications, resulting in a final count of 1,761 applicants. Adding the 201 applicants from the second round brings the total number of applicants to 1,962, equivalent to 68.3% of SCIA’s approved headcount of 2,874. It should be noted that this figure represents the number of hopeful applicants, not the confirmed appointees.
Since the SCIA’s official launch is imminent, the task force explained that no additional withdrawal period was provided for the second recruitment round. They plan to select special appointees by the end of this month, taking into account preferred work locations, career experience, and areas of expertise, and appoint them sequentially in time for the agency’s opening date.
If special appointments do not suffice to fill staffing needs, the task force intends to secure personnel through a competitive recruitment process. Eligible candidates will include police officers, attorneys, accountants, and experts in cyber technology and financial analysis.
Under applicable law, civil servants affiliated with the prosecution or public prosecution offices can be specially appointed to the SCIA until April 30, 2027.
