The Korea MICE Association announced on September 21 that it held the “2026 Incentive Travel Specialist Training Program 2nd Term” at the Daegu Inter-Burgo EXCO Hotel from September 16 to 17. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and EXCO, the program was attended by 45 MICE professionals, including industry practitioners and event organizers.

The training was designed to align with the recent trend of incentive travel expanding beyond mere visits to tourist attractions and incorporating experiences of local culture, cuisine, and lifestyle content. It focused on developing practical skills for discovering regional resources and designing them as tourism programs, actual products, and events.

This year, the program was held twice. The first session, in May in Wonju, featured shared case studies on medical tourism and AI-based regional tourism, as well as tours of industrial facilities. The second session, now in Daegu, broadened its focus to include the fundamentals of incentive travel, gourmet tourism, regional tourism marketing, and local content targeted at younger generations.

On the first day, Mira Seo, team manager at the Daegu Foundation for Arts and Culture, introduced Daegu's tourism and group incentive support systems. Presentations followed from Sangyeol Lee, Director at Goyang International Exhibition Foundation; Sungyoung Kim, CEO of YKorea; Dongwon Seol, CEO of Made In People; and Eunyoung Lee, CEO of Uniquegood Company, who shared case studies on participatory and experiential tourism planning utilizing local resources.

On the second day, participants visited Daegu’s unique venues in person. They toured the 202-meter-tall 83 Tower and the Daegu Kansong Art Museum to review facility features, assess their potential for events, and brainstorm ways to connect local tourism resources with MICE events.

According to the association, both the satisfaction rate of the participants and their favorability toward the host region reached 100% this year. Since its launch in 2021, the incentive travel specialist training program has been held in 10 regions nationwide up to this year.

A representative of the Korea MICE Association stated, “We will continue to promote the competitiveness and potential of the regional MICE industry through field-oriented training that links local tourism resources and infrastructure.”
