On September 21, the government announced that it has designated areas in Daejang-dong in Goyang City and Ojeon-dong and Wanggok-dong in Uiwang City as new public housing districts, with plans to supply a total of 23,000 housing units.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has designated approximately 1.99 million square meters in the Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence District and about 1.87 million square meters in the Uiwang Ojeon-Wanggok district as new public housing sites. The ministry aims to supply 9,400 housing units in Goyang and 14,000 units in Uiwang.
These two districts were previously included in the sites that the ministry announced would be released from greenbelt restrictions in its November 5, 2024, Housing Supply Measures, as part of the goal to provide 50,000 housing units in the Seoul metropolitan area. Since being named as candidates, the sites have undergone a public consultation process and review by the National Urban Planning Committee. Now, procedures for their official designation as new districts have been completed.
The Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence District is adjacent to Ilsan, Goyang Changneung, and Goyang Hwajeong districts. Its key advantage is robust transportation infrastructure, with access to five rail lines: GTX-A, Seoul Subway Line 3, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, Seohae Line, and Gyoe Line.
The Uiwang Ojeon-Wanggok District is located near the Uiwang–Gunpo–Ansan New Town, Uiwang Gocheon District, and Uiwang Baegun Valley. The area is served by Gwacheon–Bongdam Expressway and Gyeongsu-daero (National Route 1), and the under-construction Indeogwon–Dongtan double-track railway, with the proposed Uiwang City Hall Station, is set to open in 2029 about 0.7 kilometers away, providing strong transportation connectivity.
These districts are scheduled to receive approval for master plans in the second half of next year, with construction slated to begin in 2029. Residents are expected to be able to move in by 2032.

Jung Woojin, head of the Housing Supply Division at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "We will apply the August 13 Fast-Track Housing Supply Plan to accelerate development and do our utmost to provide sufficient housing in a timely manner."
