Daegu Mayor Chu Kyung-ho: "Issuing 100 Billion Won Daegu Pay to Revitalize Traditional Markets"
Visits to Traditional Markets Before Chuseok
Listening Directly to Merchants' Voices
Daegu Mayor Chu Kyung-ho visited Waryong Market and Seomun Market on September 20, following his visit to the Gwanmun Market on the 19th. Amid growing economic difficulties felt by self-employed individuals and traditional market merchants due to recent price increases and sluggish consumption, the visits were aimed at directly hearing the voices of traditional market vendors ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
On that day, Mayor Chu checked the status of the Onnuri gift certificate refund events at each market, ensured that citizens were not experiencing any inconvenience while using the traditional markets, and examined the prices and trends of major holiday products and the overall inflation situation. He looked closely at both the burdens on citizens’ holiday shopping and the hardships faced by merchants as Chuseok approaches.

Mayor Chu stated that he would carefully consider the merchants' opinions, seek effective support measures, and strengthen hands-on, field-centered public administration to provide practical help for traditional markets and local commercial areas.
Earlier, on September 10, Daegu city announced a series of measures to stimulate consumption at the 5th Emergency Economic Task Force Meeting, seeking to revitalize the local economy using the Chuseok holiday as an opportunity.
Following the government’s Onnuri gift certificate refund event for traditional markets, held from September 16 to 20, Daegu city plans to issue 100 billion won worth of Daegu Pay starting on September 21, aiming to alleviate the shopping burden during the Chuseok holiday and promote local spending.
In addition, the city will implement a "special consumption boost plan" funded with its own budget to prevent a slowdown in consumption at traditional markets and local commercial districts after the Chuseok holiday.
Starting October 12, the city will grant Onnuri gift certificates based on the amount spent at traditional markets in the “Mega Sale,” while also supporting promotional activities for neighborhood commercial areas and organizing unique autumn festivals for each district, all with the goal of continually invigorating consumption in traditional markets and local businesses.
