LG Establishes 'AI Education System' to Nurture a Future Generation Equipped with AI Competitiveness
Record 3,393 Youths Join 9th Hackathon
100 Million Won in Support Funds and Application Waivers for Top Teams
Recruitment Now Open for Camp to Nurture the Next 'AI Unicorns'
LG is accelerating the establishment of a customized AI education system through initiatives such as AI hackathons for young people, recruitment fairs, and AI education programs for adolescents.
LG announced on the 20th that it had held the hands-on program “LG Aimers Hackathon,” designed to solve industry challenges with AI technology, over a one-night, two-day period starting from the 19th at LG Inhwa Garden in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. Since its launch in the second half of 2022, more than 23,000 young people have participated in LG Aimers, establishing it as the largest AI talent development program for youth in Korea.
This 9th edition saw a record-high participation of 3,393 youths. Following online education and the online preliminary round of the hackathon, 96 finalists, who overcame intense competition with a ratio of 34 to 1, made it to the final round. LG is awarding all finalists a total of 100 million won in support funds.
This hackathon's theme, provided by LG Sports, was “Developing an AI Model to Predict a Pitcher's Success Rate in Pitch Control.” Control refers to a pitcher's ability to throw accurately to the desired spot. Participants moved beyond traditional outcome-based metrics such as ERA, walk and strikeout ratios, and took on the challenge of developing AI-powered indicators that could predict the likelihood of successful pitch control.
LG Sports explained that, although data-driven decision-making has already been applied successfully in baseball, it developed this challenge with the expectation that the fresh perspectives of talented young people could lead to discovering new metrics. Participants gained practical experience by developing AI models that predicted the likelihood of a successful pitch by leveraging contextual information, such as match dynamics, importance of the at-bat, recent game trends, and each pitcher’s unique traits.
After the event concluded, LG conducted a comprehensive assessment of submitted code, model performance, and oral presentations, awarding a total prize of 10 million won to the top three teams. Award winners will also receive a waiver of the document screening stage when applying for employment at LG.

On the following day, the 20th, LG held a recruitment fair featuring four major affiliates: LG AI Research Institute, LG Electronics, LG Uplus, and LG CNS. HR representatives from each company shared recruitment information and provided career counseling to participants. They also introduced opportunities for registration in the LG AI talent pool, which could provide priority consideration in future hiring. Through 1:1 job consulting by recruitment specialists and mock AI interview lectures, they further supported the employment competitiveness of young AI talent.
Anyone between the ages of 19 and 29 with basic AI knowledge and coding skills can apply for LG Aimers, which is held twice a year. LG provides the entire process free of charge, from lectures at the AI graduate school level to job application support activities.
LG is also openly recruiting 100 participants for the 4th “LG AI Youth Camp,” jointly operated with Seoul National University, until October 22. This program is a social contribution initiative designed to help adolescents discover their growth potential by experiencing how AI can be used to solve everyday problems.
The selected adolescents will start with a two-night, three-day training session at Seoul National University in February 2027 and then participate in a 10-week domestic educational program through May, conducting team projects with Seoul National University student mentors each week. LG will also provide outstanding participants in the domestic program an opportunity to join an overseas educational program in Silicon Valley, USA, for two weeks during the summer break.
The target participants, as of this year, are students currently in the 6th grade of elementary school up to the 2nd grade of middle school, and participation is completely free of charge. Applicants must fill out an application on the program’s website and submit a video on the theme “My Own AI Problem-Solving Idea.”
Koo Kwang-mo, CEO of LG Corporation, has previously emphasized that “technology should not be an end in itself, but rather a warm tool that brings smiles to people, ultimately serving humanity.” This means that LG’s tradition of challenge and innovation has always included visionaries, and that AI, too, is a natural extension of this history. As the foundation for the distinct customer value that LG pursues lies in talent, this is closely aligned with the “people-centered” management philosophy that has been handed down since the company’s founding.

Reflecting CEO Koo’s philosophy of talent management, LG has built a tailored AI education system. This includes “LG Discovery Lab” and “LG AI Youth Camp” for adolescents, “LG Aimers” to provide hands-on AI experience for young adults, and “LG AI Academy” for developing in-house staff into AI experts. LG is also powering Korea’s AI competitiveness through initiatives such as the in-house graduate school “LG AI Graduate School,” the first to be officially approved by the Ministry of Education, and the “AI Ethics MOOC” program, run in partnership with UNESCO.
